Bulletin 10-Second Bio

Name: Jack Coons

Title: Robert L. Bridges Professor of Law, Emeritus

Dept./Unit: Law school faculty

When I started working here: 1967

What I do in five words or less: Hike, write, share and pray.

The best part about working here: The collegiality here at the law school and the “committee of the whole person” that pulled the faculty together every Friday afternoon.

Something you don’t know about me: I was the last man to drop kick an extra point in college football, in 1949.

One weird fact about the town that I grew up in: I grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and shared my town with the wonderful black bears who invaded our privacy—which lead some bears to their demise. One even broke into a bar in town to raid the food scraps and ended up becoming a permanent fixture on the wall.

If I could have any job in the world (besides the one I have now) it would be: I would love to be a successful lead singer with a dance band that played music from the 1930’s and 1940’s. I’d also love to continue to write musical farces for the faculty Christmas party. This year, the title of our production is: “T-Rump and the Chasm of Dumb.” You can guess what it may be about!
