IABA’s Purpose
For decades the International Association of Berkeley Law Alumni in Europe (IABA) has dedicated itself to facilitating and maintaining contacts both among overseas alumni, as well as between alumni and Berkeley Law and its Faculty. Although its activity is primarily in Europe, it is open to all alumni and former visiting scholars. As a long-standing alumni organisation in Europe, IABA has undertaken to play an active role in Berkeley Law’s development of an international alumni network. In this respect it also welcomes contacts with Berkeley Law alumni and other alumni organisations.
History and Organisation
IABA has a long history: In 1967 European LLM alumni decided to found an international alumni association in Europe, named the International Association of Boalt Alumni. In 1968 the first annual general meeting was held in Strassbourg and IABA was formally constituted under French law. In 1984 it was subsequently incorporated as a non-profit society under Swiss law and is domiciled in Switzerland today.

IABA Reunions
Annual Reunions
Since 1968, IABA holds an annual reunion with its general assembly in a different city each year. This meeting is an event with an academic part and a broad social program, at which members, alumni, spouses and accompanying persons are welcome.
We will be holding this year’s annual event from September 25 to 27 in the beautiful Italian city of Venice, the Queen of the Adriatic. Our organizer, Paola Parma (LLM ’87) is proposing a wonderful program with cultural and historical highlights (including a private visit to the Duke’s palace and a visit the Biennale art exhibition; as well as some “secret” spots of Venice

Friday, September 25th
14:00 Get-together coffee and snacks at the Combo (restored former Dei Crociferi convent)
15:00 Lecture by Monica Chojnacka Ph.D., “Venezia, City of Fortune” at the Combo
16:15 IABA Annual General Meeting (for IABA members) at the Combo
18:20 Private visit to the Duke’s palace
21:15 Dinner at the Casa Cappellari
Saturday, September 26th
10:45 Visit to the Biennale Art Exhibition
13:30 Light lunch on the panoramic terrasse of the In Paradiso restaurant
15:30 Walk back to the hotels, past some secret places off the tourist tracks
19:00 Gala Cocktail at Ca’ Sagredo hotel
21:15 Dinner at the Vecia Cavana, serving typical Venetian dishes in a converted old boat shelter
Sunday, September 27th (choice among several optional events)
07:30 Sunrise walk (30-40 minutes) at a quite time to some beautiful sights

8:30 Rowing lesson on a typical Venetian boat (ca. 60-80 minutes)

09:30 Guided visit of Scuola Grande di San Rocco, the palace of the St. Roch Fraternity (ca. 60-80 minutes)
